Canadian Tire Corp 60 foot Intermodal Container and Chassis - 2021 to 2024
Background:
I first heard about the newly developed 60-foot XHC intermodal container for Canadian Tire Corp in an industry newsletter released in 2017.
The largest intermodal containers that preceded the 60-footers had a standard 53-foot length. The new 60-foot containers delivered to Canadian Tire increased volume by approximately 13.2% compared to the standard 53-foot domestic intermodal containers. Additionally, the new extended-length containers can be transported by both OTR trucking and rail.
Singamas Container Holdings and Dong Fang International Container manufactured containers for the new venture. A corresponding 60-foot capable intermodal chassis was manufactured for (redacted) of Canada.
Fast forward to 2021:
A Toronto-based intermodal supplier interested in producing replicas using injection molding contacted me. They provided source documents and paint codes. I subsequently realized the CAD drawings, drawings package, and other production details for the container and chassis. Developed in 1:87 scale for Horizon Hobby.
Both container models are being tooled, molded, and assembled. Delivery is slated for Q3 2024. Please see the CAD images and flyer below for further details. Additional product images will be uploaded as they become available.
